Dr. Maria Berkel (Alexandra Neldel) is on the way to her new job in a hospital of a small African village. On the domestic flight, she meets the rough-and-ready pilot Paul Freytag (Max von Thun). At first, Maria is rejected, but with a little help from the healer N'nanga (Thembi Mtshali) she wins slowly the confidence of the local people. She is convinced, that contaminated water causes the disease of the villagers. But soon she realizes that people will not get sick from bacteria ...

Stefan Ahrens works very successfully as a tax consultant. One day at a wedding he meets the attractive tax official Ulrike Stechlin, with whom he immediately falls in love. Unfortunately, the two are unable to exchange addresses and only meet again a few weeks later... The two friends Marie and Hannah spend a vacation together in Italy. While Hannah has just been divorced, the fun-loving Marie throws herself into an affair with the Viennese surgeon Xavier Gruber. However, he only wants a vacation flirtation without consequences - and leaves her the business card of car mechanic Xavier Martin, which he received by chance, when he leaves unexpectedly. Back in Germany, Marie begins to write ardent love letters to the supposed doctor in Vienna. The shy mechanic is initially amused, but eventually falls in love with the letter writer and confesses his feelings to her without clearing up the misunderstanding.
